McFeely Window Fashions – Custom Drapery with Contrast Banding and Motorized Silhouette Shadings for Privacy

You’re fortunate enough to have a house with an expansive view from tall, two-story windows but now what?  Covering tall windows can be a real challenge for a number of reasons.    First the obvious, the location makes it difficult to have functioning window treatments that can open and close.   Therefore you need to decide if your window treatments are purely for aesthetics or if they need to address light control and privacy needs as well.  Second, tall windows are more expensive because of the additional fabric needed for draperies and the installation is a bit more involved.

The majority of our clients will opt for stationary custom panels to enhance the design of their space and forego a blind, shade, or shutter.  However, if privacy or glaring light is a concern, we would suggest adding a covering that is motorized for easy operation in addition to draperies.  There are different types of blinds & shades that you can get motorized:

If motorization is not within your budget, one final option to consider would be custom window draperies, paired with a blind or shutter that is operational on the lower level but remains open on the upper level.
